Can You Tile A Painted Concrete Floor

Ceramic tiles will not adhere to an enamel painted floor because the surface is too smooth.

If the paint comes loose so does the tile. Painted concrete can be made porous with sandblasting or other hard abrasive actions. Sheets of cement backing available from most do it yourself. While you can install tile directly on concrete problems erupt when the concrete cracks or shifts.

It will help to prevent peeling and flaking of the paint over time. Once the concrete floor is paint free the tiling process is similar to most other floor tiling jobs. Water should readily absorb in the concrete as an indication that it. I do not know of any product designed to work above or onto of a painted surface concrete. Yup they said never tile over painted concrete but they did say you can add a whole other subfloor over it to make it work ex. Basement mudroom or ground floor laundry room you need to figure out this step before going to far along. High adhesion primer will chemically bond to the tile itself while still creating a surface on which you can reliably paint.
