Stop immediately if you smell gas.

Like many gas furnaces our furnace uses this hot surface ignitor it lights up like a glow plug every time the burner needs to light so it cycles hot cold thousands of times.
Furnace ignitor doesn t glow when the stat calls for heat the blower runs for a while then shuts down then the inducer runs for a while then shuts down at no time does the ignitor glow.
It eventually cracks and burns out like a burnt out light bulb.
Here are a few steps to check your ignitor and determine if it needs to be replaced.
Turn off the furnace.
A faulty or dirty ignition or sensor is a relatively easy fix so follow these steps and you may be able to solve the problem yourself.
In order to check the ignitor by testing the circuit and inspecting the furnace for visual damage the furnace must be set at room temperature.
I put a meter on the wires going to the ignitor and found no power during the start up sequence.
They last about 10 years.
This is typically the problem if you can hear your furnace click on but it does not fire up.
You might smell some gas.
Turn the furnace off and leave the house.
Find the gas supply valve next to or behind the furnace and rotate the valve to the open position typically by twisting counterclockwise.
Make sure the furnace as at room temperature.
The ignitor did not glow the flame sensor a small metal probe about 1 8 in diameter with a white porcelain base does not sense the flame so after 8 to 10 seconds the hissing sounds stops with no ignition of gas to heat your home.
If too much water backs up into the draft inducer it will not allow the pressure switch to close.
The goodman furnace may not be receiving an adequate gas supply if the glow ignitor turns on but the furnace cannot ignite.
A technician told us he changes these all the time.
Make sure your water drain on a 92 furnace is open.
